Advancing Justice Through Knowledge, Advocacy, and Action

The North Carolina Center for Women’s Justice (NCCWJ) advances justice, equity, dignity, and opportunity for women and girls through research, policy advocacy, public education, resource navigation, and community engagement.

Our programs and initiatives address immediate needs while examining the systemic barriers that affect safety, economic security, educational opportunity, and self-determination.

Through interconnected activities and resources, NCCWJ works to strengthen access to information, expand opportunities for participation, and advance meaningful institutional and social change throughout North Carolina.

ADVOCACY & POLICY INITIATIVES

NCCWJ examines legislation, public policies, and institutional practices that affect the rights, safety, economic security, and opportunities of women and girls.

Our advocacy initiatives include Freedom to Leave, Safe on Campus, and Coerced Debt, which address distinct legal, economic, and institutional barriers.

Through research, policy analysis, public education, and community engagement, these initiatives seek to strengthen awareness, inform policy discussions, and advance equitable institutional practices..

RIGHTS EDUCATION

Understanding legal rights and protections enables individuals to make more informed decisions, identify potential violations, and recognize available options for assistance.

NCCWJ’s Know Your Rights resource provides accessible educational information concerning employment, housing, reproductive health, personal safety, education, civil rights, and other issues affecting women, girls, and communities.

This initiative supports legal awareness, informed decision-making, and individual self-advocacy.

LEGAL RESOURCE NAVIGATION

Navigating legal systems can be difficult, particularly when individuals face financial, geographic, or informational barriers.

NCCWJ’s Legal Resources Directory provides a searchable collection of legal aid organizations, court information, lawyer referral services, and community support resources throughout North Carolina.

Visitors can search by county, legal issue, keyword, and resource type to identify relevant sources of assistance.

This initiative seeks to reduce informational barriers and improve access to available legal resources.

COMMUNITY RESOURCE NAVIGATION

Access to reliable information about available services is essential to personal stability, safety, health, and economic opportunity.

NCCWJ’s NC Resource Directory helps individuals and families identify organizations and programs addressing housing, food security, healthcare, financial assistance, education, personal safety, and other essential needs.

By bringing community resource information together in one accessible location, NCCWJ seeks to strengthen awareness of available services and support more informed resource navigation.

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT & COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

NCCWJ recognizes that meaningful civic participation begins with knowledge, access to information, and connections to organizations and institutions that influence community life.

Our Civic Engagement Center helps North Carolinians discover advocacy organizations, explore public issues, and identify opportunities to participate in civic and community affairs.

Through this initiative, NCCWJ seeks to strengthen civic awareness and expand opportunities for women and girls to engage with the decisions and institutions shaping their towns, cities, counties, and state.

COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE & OUTREACH

NCCWJ recognizes that material hardship and limited access to essential goods can create barriers to health, stability, dignity, and opportunity.

Through community assistance and outreach activities, NCCWJ coordinates donations and distributions of menstrual products, personal care supplies, and other necessities to support women, girls, and families.

These efforts complement our broader advocacy, educational, and resource navigation work by responding to immediate needs while supporting longer-term stability and well-being.

RESEARCH & POLICY ANALYSIS

NCCWJ examines the social, economic, legal, and institutional conditions affecting women and girls, with particular attention to systemic barriers and disparities in access to rights, resources, and opportunity.

Our research and policy activities include legislative monitoring, policy analysis, examination of institutional practices, and the development of information that supports public awareness and informed discussion.

Through evidence-informed inquiry, NCCWJ seeks to contribute knowledge that strengthens advocacy, informs institutional decision-making, and identifies opportunities for meaningful change.

SUSTAINING & EXPANDING OUR WORK

NCCWJ’s programs, initiatives, and public resources reflect our commitment to advancing justice through practical action.

Financial support, institutional partnerships, and community collaboration are essential to sustaining these efforts and expanding our organizational capacity.

Together, we can strengthen access to knowledge, resources, and opportunities for women and girls throughout North Carolina.
